Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today, on our 2023 Toyota Highlander, we're gonna be showing you how to install the tekonsha four-way flat vehicle wiring harness. Before we get into that though, let's just take a minute to check this out and make sure it's gonna work for you. You got your trailer hitch, and you plan on pulling your trailer around. You're gonna need a way to power up all lights on that trailer, and this kit right here, is gonna allow you to legally and safely be able to accomplish that. So, it just has a four-way flat end, and this is really common for, you know, the majority of trailers that the Highlander will be able to pull. more

Hey everybody, Ryan here at Etrailer. Today, on our 2022 Toyota Highlander, we're going to be showing you how to install, the Tekonsha vehicle wiring harness kit, but before we do that, why don't we check this out and make sure it's going to work for you. When it comes to the Toyota Highlander, you know, super capable SUVs and people do a lot of stuff with them, which does include towing and so, if you're pulling a trailer, you're going to want the lights to work on it, and that's exactly what this is going to do, it's going to have that four-way flat, which will plug into those small or medium-sized trailers and power everything up. Not to mention, cargo carriers that have lights on them, are getting more and more popular nowadays, and those will have the same type of connector as well, so this will power those up. But I want to address one of the big questions, it seems like a lot of people are wondering, because there's Highlanders that have "the factory tow package and others that are not equipped, with the factory tow package." And there seems to be a little confusion, when it comes to that. So, just want to explain on how you can figure that out, that way you make sure you get the right wiring, the first time and you'll be squared away. more

Hey everybody, how's it going Today We're gonna be going over and showing you how to install the Tekonsha T-One trailer wiring harness, here on a 2021 Toyota Highlander. So before we tell you about this trailer wiring harness we wanna make sure that this is the correct fit for your vehicle because there's two different options here for the Highlander. We have models with the factory tow package, and we have models without the factory towing package. This particular harness here is gonna be specific to those models with the factory tow package. So if you don't have the factory tow package, you'll need to purchase the other one for this vehicle that involves a bit more installation. Now, if you don't know whether or not you have the factory towing package, it's a good idea to go ahead and reach out to your dealer with your VIN so they could verify that for you. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Toyota Highlander we're going to be installing Hopkins four pole flat trailer connector vehicle wiring harness, part number HM11141845. This four pole flat trailer connector is going to hook up to your trailer and provide all the necessary signals.This includes your left turn, right turn, tail lamps and brake lamps so you'll be DOT compliant in all states. There's an included dust cap that can be removed or put back on. Since it does live inside the vehicle, it is going to be free of moisture but this will allow you to keep it nice and closed and prevent any moisture from entering the connector when it is on the outside if you're not using it.It can also be used to hold your connector up when you're not using it. When you're done using your connector you can open up your tailgate, wrap it up and store it in the rear compartment. When you're ready to use your connector just pull it out, hang it over the back, you can close down your panel and then lay it flat right over top of the weather stripping.When you close your tailgate it's going to pinch it to hold it in place, it's not going to damage the wiring. more

This replacement cable gives you enough length to route it properly and easily store it in your trunk so that way you have plenty of room to reach your vehicle as well.This four pole connector is gonna give you your tail lights, turn signals, and brake lights that you're gonna need to comply with state regulations. When you're all done using it, you can easily wrap it back up, secure it, and store it in your rear compartment here.If you decide you want to mount this permanently outside the vehicle by drilling in, or finding a grommet to poke it through, a dust cover is included, which can be inserted on it to protect it from the elements while stored outside.This wiring harness will work as a replacement for your current four pole if it becomes damaged. It will also plug directly into your factory harness if you do not have a four pole, but you have the factory tow prep package.If your Highlander does not have the factory tow prep package, and you will need to buy a converter kit. Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2017 Toyota Highlander 118449- Video
Today on our 2017 Toyota Highlander, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Tekonsha T-One vehicle wiring harness with four-pole flat trailer connector, part number 118449. Here's what our wiring looks like installed. This wiring is going to give us the basic lighting functions that are required by law in order for us to safely and legally tow a trailer. This white wire here provides the necessary ground connection between our trailer and our Highlander, so our lights on the trailer work properly. This brown wire here is for our taillight and running light circuit. On this wire we have a total maximum power output of 5.6 amps of power, which is sufficient to tow a small trailer with a few incandescent light bulbs or several LED lights. LEDs draw significantly less power than incandescent light bulbs, so we don't have much to worry about there. This yellow wire here is for our left turn signal and left brake left. more

Now this wiring harness gives us the necessary functions that are required by law in order for us to legally tow a trailer. Our white wire here gives us the necessary ground connection between our trailer and our Highlander so our trailer lights work properly. Close our hatch on up, by staying away from the latch we'll ensure that it doesn't get crushed or damaged. We have plenty wire length here to hook up to our trailer. Today on our 2016 Toyota Highlander we'll be having a look at and installing the Curt T Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with Four Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number C56217. All right, here's what our wiring looks like installed. When we're ready to use it we can just drape it to the side of our hatch latch here so it won't get damaged, and we'll close our hatch on up. As you can see, we have an adequate length of wire, so we have plenty of room to hook up to our trailer; we won't have any problems reaching it at all. Now, this wiring will give us our required functions as we need by law in order to safely tow our trailer. We'll have our taillights, our running lights, both our left and right turn signal, and our brake lights. This wiring harness provides us with a maximum power output of 3 amps for our turn signals and our brake lights, and a total power output of 6 amps for our taillights and our running light circuit. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2016 Toyota Highlander 118449- Video
Today on our 2016 Toyota Highlander, we'll be having a look at and installing the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with Four-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number 118449. With our wiring installed, one nice feature about it is we can store it out of the elements inside our vehicle in our cargo compartment here, keeping it readily accessible and protected. When ready to tow, close our hatch on up. By having it off to the side of our latch, we don't have to worry about the wire getting crushed or damaged. As you see, we have adequate slack to bring our wiring very close to where our receiver is, so we shouldn't have any problems hooking up to our trailer at all. One nice feature about our wiring here is we have this dust cover on it that'll protect it from any dirt and debris, which may be inside of our trunk, helping prevent a short or poor connection. This wiring gives us all the functions that we need in order to legally tow a trailer safely. We will have our tail light function, a running light function, turn signal functions, and our brake light functions. Now, this wiring harness will provide us with 2.1 amps of power for our stop and turn signal lights on our trailer with a max tail light amperage or running light amperage of 5.6 amps. more

Best 2016 Toyota Highlander Trailer Wiring Options- Video
Today we're going to be taking a look at the best wiring options for your 2016 Toyota Highlander. First we've got our CURT customer vehicle wiring harness, part number C56217. Then we've got our Tekonsha T1 vehicle wiring harness, part number 118449. Lastly we've got our CURT customer vehicle wiring harness, part number 56042. The first obvious difference that we're going to see here is that with this wiring harness over here this CURT does not have as much as the others. That's because if you have a Highlander that already has the tow package with the conveter mounted underneath the dash, this is all that you're going to need. But, if you don't, then one of these other two kits will be the right fit for you. The first difference that we're going to look at between the CURT and the Tekonsha wiring harnesses is the amperage rating on each circuit. more

Today on our 2014 Toyota Highlander, we're going to take a look at and who you how to install the tow ready t1 vehicle wiring harness with the four pole flat trailer connector. Part number is 118449. This is what our wiring kit's going to look like when we pull it out of the package. The heart of our system here is going to be our converter box. That's going to take the signals that we get from the tin connector that we're going to find in the hatch area of the vehicle and this is going to convert it into a usable signal that's then going to be sent out of our four pin connector to our four pole connector that we can connect to the trailer. This is going to give us our right turn and brake, our left turn and brake, our running lights and our ground. Whether we're hooking it up to a trailer or a cargo career we're going to have full function on our lights. more

Today on our 2010 Toyota Highlander we're going to take a look at and also show you how to install the curt T-connector vehicle wiring harness with the curt T-connector vehicle wiring harness with the four pole flat trailer connector, part number is C56217. When we do need it, it's just a matter of pulling it right out just like this, we'll allow it to rest right there on that weather stripping. That'll give us good protection so it doesn't get pinched or anything like that. Then we'll just be bale to connect it right to our trailer. When we're down with it, of course, when you do close your door, make sure you don't have it around your striker here. That'll cause issues of course. Then when we're done with it, we're just going to bunch this up and slide our and slide our disk cap right over the end of it there, bring it around and that'll hold it all together nicely for us until we need it again. Hopkins Plug-N-Tow Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2003 Toyota Highlander- Video
Today on our 2003 Toyota Highlander, we'll be installing the Hopkins Plug and Tow Vehicle Wiring Harness with Four Pole Trailer Connector, part number 33425. Right here behind the driver's side tail light, there's two little tabs here. Remove that and that will let us gain access to the wiring behind the tail light. Let's go ahead and set aside. Next, we'll go ahead and take the spare tire cover and set it aside and go ahead and take this panel pull it up out of the way. There's a couple push fasteners here that connect this so we're going to go ahead and take those out so we can go ahead and remove this threshold and this plastic compartment so we can run our wire across. Next, we'll go over to the passenger side here and remove a couple of panels. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2009 Toyota Highlander- Video
Today on our 2009 Toyota Highlander, we're going to be doing an installation of the T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-pole Flat Trailer Connector. The part number is 118449. Now, for the first step in our installation we need to plug in our module box that has the rectangular white connector on it and it's going to match up with the plug that we've got right up here. You see right here we've got the factory plug, so what we'll do is just take ours, line up our tabs, press it together until it clicks, and then pull to test. Make sure all of our connections are nice and tight and then we'll just tuck our module box up and use the provided zip tie to zip tie that off. I'm just going to go right around the wiring harness that runs right there. more

To begin our install, first well need to gain access to the port. To do that, well go ahead and open up the rear hatch. Well go ahead and remove the center cargo cover, storage compartment door, trim paneling or floor paneling here on the driver side, the rear shade or the rear visor cargo cover. Now, we need to remove the storage compartment here on the driver side. There are three fasteners, one push-in fasteners and two plastic caps here in the bottom of the storage compartment. Were now ready to remove the corner compartment. more
